On Saturday 17 October, King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Crown Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia visited Somao town in Pravia, Asturias to present the 2020 Princess of Asturias Exemplary Town of Asturias Award. Crown Princess Leonor (The Princess of Asturias) led her family during the visit to the exemplary town of the year, Somao. The town has been awarded the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award 2020 for having known how to maintain the wealth of its Indian and rural heritage through close ties of neighborhood collaboration in an exemplary commitment to the union of tradition and modernity. One year on from their visit to Pakistan, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held a video call with teachers and children from the Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG), which they visited in October 2019. During the video call, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge received information from the teachers about how they have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic and then, took part in a Pictionary game with the students. On Friday October 16, a new official portrait of Queen Elizabeth taken by Chris Jackson at Windsor Castle in March 2019 was officialy released by the Canadian government in honour of her ties to the Commonwealth nation. The new portrait will hang in Canadian government buildings, schools, and legislatures around the country as well as Canadian Embassies and High Commissions abroad. On October 16, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark received Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen. Official diplomatic relations have existed between Switzerland and Denmark since 1920. Princess Sofia met with Caroline Engvall and Teija Bervokk from Safe Selfie Academy at Stockholm Royal Palace. Safe Selfie Academy educates students and staff in schools about online safety of children and young people. The meeting was held by the Princess to receive more information on the academy's work. Safe Selfie Academy is a platform about online vulnerability with involuntary image and film distribution on the internet. Caroline Engvall is a journalist, lecturer and author who has written several crime novels in Swedish. She runs several projects that help children who are exposed to online crimes, including the publication of educational materials, help websites, podcasts and television documentaries.

The 2020 Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony, which is considered amongst the major awards in the world, was held on Friday 16 October at the Hotel of the Reconquista in Oviedo, the capital of the Principality of Asturias.
